Health experts say childhood obesity is getting out of hand, and doctors are calling on parents consumed with their own weight loss goals to take a closer look at their children's waistlines.
Before you make another resolution to lose weight, doctors say you may need to look at the numbers on your kid's scale first. Childhood obesity is growing out of control, according to WebMd editor Dr. Michael Smith. He says the problem is leaving more children with health disorders usually associated with obese adults, such as Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure and gall stones.
Instead of lecturing kids about being out of shape, Smith says you should teach them how to get in shape.
To that end, the FDA approved two new drugs for overweight adults. They're the first to get FDA approval in more than a decade, and they're geared towards people who need to lose 20 percent or more of their body weight.
According to Smith, losing weight and getting in shape should be more than a resolution. It should be become a lifestyle for the entire family.
