
A 27-year-old man from Wilmington died early Tuesday morning after his car veered off the northbound lanes of I-495 and overturned.
The accident happened around 1:15 a.m. on I-495 approximately one mile south of the exit for the Philadelphia Pike in Claymont.
Delaware State Police have identified the victim as Jose Rodriguez. Police say Rodriguez was driving the car when it crashed.
Investigators say his car veered off the road, struck a guardrail and then overturned several times.
Rodriguez, who was not properly restrained, was ejected onto the road and then struck by several vehicles, according to Delaware State Police.
Police say Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, 28-year-old Merry Ortiz of Wilmington, was taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition, police said.
