Community delivers Christmas cheer to family of slain officer

COLD SPRING, Minn. (KMSP) -

For 8-year-old Kelly Decker and her siblings, Christmas is the absolute best.

"What I'm expecting is a phone and I think I already got it," Kelly said.

As is the tradition every December in the Decker home, the tree is up and the stocking are hung.

But sadly, this Christmas just isn't the same, not without the children's father around to celebrate.

"With the kids, it's kind of been a rollercoaster," said their mother, Rebecca Lee Decker. "One minute, they're ok, then the next minute they're crying. I just try to console them – make them feel comfortable and keep my spirits high."

Back in November, Cold Spring police officer Tom Decker was shot and killed in the line of duty.

His ex-wife Rebecca is now raising their four children – all under 10-years-old – in a small house near St. Cloud.

The shocking death – and the fact that no one is in custody for the late-night ambush – has rattled the family.

"Unsettling to know that someone is out there," Lee Decker said. "No one's got the person – just scary for the kids. We just want justice for him."

On Saturday, a surprise house guest delivered some much needed holiday cheer.

Jolly Saint Nick arriving with his elves, and a jumbo sized sleigh full of Christmas presents for Devon, Justin, Jade and Kelly.

Several law enforcement organizations teamed up to make the delivery happen, including Wives Behind the Badge and The Minnesota Fraternal Order of the Police.

Hundreds of toys and thousands of dollars were raised to make sure Decker's surviving family members have all they need – and then some – at Christmas.
