Kindergartners bring Christmas to seniors

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Nothing gets you in the Christmas spirit quite like a group of carolers, and a local senior center received some pint sized carolers that definitely lifted their spirits.

Years ago, when the children at Johnson's Learning Center wanted to do something in the community for Christmas, they initially decided to adopt a family. But soon that wasn't enough for them, so they expanded their mission and a local nursing home is now singing their praises.

For kindergartners at the Center, it was no ordinary day. After wrapping gifts, they were off on a special field trip.

"It warms our heart that these children are so excited about giving instead of receiving," said Principal Pat Johnson.

The children went to a senior center on Panthersville Road, and gave a gift that couldn't be wrapped. The kids gave of themselves, singing their hearts out to the senior citizens at the center.

Seniors tapped their feet and beamed with pride as the children gave a short Christmas presentation. It soon became clear all their rehearsing wasn't in vain.

"I just love it, I just love it. I almost cried," said senior Evelyn Reid.

Senior Yvonne Freeman said children were "tremendously lovely."

It didn't end there. The children then gave the gifts they wrapped themselves to each member of their appreciative audience, making Christmas for the seniors just about complete.

"To see these kids take their time to come welcome you and do so much for you, it's really beautiful. And I enjoyed every minute of it," said Freeman.

Each senior received a pair of pajamas as a gift from the children.
