DETROIT (WJBK) -- "He was like real attached to me.  I would sit on the couch.  He'll sit right next to me and always with me," said Carina Higdon.

Higdon cried as she remembered Kujo's last moments.  The little Yorkie was on his chain in her backyard on Pinehurst just before 1:00 p.m. Monday when two pit bulls who live down the block attacked him, dragged him out of the yard and mauled him so badly he had to be put down.

"I heard some screaming and stuff and it was the next door neighbor that saw what was happening back here, and when I guess she saw them (grab) him... she started banging on the door," Higdon explained.

Even worse, Kujo, who was five years old, was a gift from her son, who died last year.

"My son passed last year, so that's all I really had from him," Higdon told me.

Higdon said she is worried about other pets in the neighborhood and not just pets, but people and that the sooner the two pit bulls are gone the better.

Nobody answered the door at the home where the pit bulls live.  Detroit Police and Detroit Animal Control have been notified.  Animal Control told me they are in the process of bringing the dogs in where they will be quarantined for ten days while an investigation is done and a decision made about whether or not they will be put down.  Until then, there's serious concern in the neighborhood.

"I'm worried about just anybody.  It doesn't just have to be a dog or whatever," said Higdon.  "I'm worried about me if they come back here.  What if they come back again to see if there's another dog back here or whatever and then they attack me."
