Police in Prince George's County say a standoff with an armed man inside an apartment building has ended peacefully.
The barricade situation began Monday night at a building in Adelphi. Police negotiated with 24-year-old Carlos Pierola for about 8 hours before police say Pierola attempted to end his life. Officers entered the apartment and took him from the building in an ambulance shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Pierola was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
Police say he was alone in the apartment. Pierola's weapon was recovered, and no police officers were hurt during the incident.
Police say they had been assisting U.S. marshals in serving a warrant when the standoff began.
