ALEXANDRIA, Va. -
Alexandria Police say two marked police cruisers have been stolen from outside officers' homes in the past week.
An officer reported the first cruiser missing from outside the apartment complex in the 2700 block of Duke Street. It had been parked and locked, but was taken sometime between late Thursday and early Friday.
Prince George's County Police found the car abandoned in Forestville, Md. There was minimum damage, but a Remington 870 shotgun and a Panasonic Toughbook Mobile Computer were taken from the vehicle.
Officials say a second marked Alexandria Police cruiser, also parked and locked, was stolen from the 1500 block of Princess Street sometime between late Friday and early Saturday. It was later found in Northeast D.C. No police equipment was taken and all property was recovered from the cruiser.
Detectives believe the two cases are related.
Within the city of Alexandria, there are approximately 30 marked take-home vehicles. Police say they won't be kept overnight in neighborhoods until the suspect(s) is behind bars.
Anyone with information about either of these cases is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section at 703-746-6711. Detectives would like to remind witnesses they can remain anonymous.
