Former Teacher Of The Year Out Of Job

Posted: Updated:

A former teacher of the year is now out of a job after he was arrested for streaking through the parking lot of a Camden County apartment complex.

The Vineland School District fired Mark Bringhurst after learning of the incident.

Bringhurst spent the last eight years as a teacher at Winslow Elementary School. Just last year, he was named teacher of the year.

Bringhurst was dismissed from his job because his conduct was "unbecoming of a tenured teacher."

In a statement, the superintendent of Vineland Schools said "Based upon a thorough review of the facts, the district took appropriate action and followed protocol."

Bringhurst's attorney noted the incident took place outside of school and that the board should have considered his exemplary teaching record before making their decision.
