It's a date that only comes around once a century – 12/12/12. Many consider it lucky. A lot of couples are hoping to turn that superstition into a lifetime of luck in love. Four couples chose that date to get married at Atlantic Station in Atlanta.
Rachel Hummel waited years for the special day. After 3 years of dating, her years in law school and her fiancé's deployment to Afghanistan, there was never an opportunity to save enough money for a wedding. But less than a week ago, her sweetheart Sgt. Phillip Fletcher asked if she wouldn't mind getting married on December 12, 2012.
"He called me, I was on my way home from work. He said he heard about Reverend Gloria and what she was doing today and he asked me if it would be OK with me if we got married that day and I said sure," said Hummel.
The Rev. Gloria Tate-Reed specializes in weddings and wanted to offer military couples an all-expense paid ceremony, complete with photography as long as the couple could exchange vows on 12/12/12. She's doing this in honor of her son, who serves in the U.S. Navy.
"It changed my life, when your son says he's going to Iraq and there's a war there. And so I just want to honor the military -- everyone. I respect everyone and what they do for this country," said Tate-Reed.
The reverend got vendors to donate their services. Rachel managed to find the perfect dress on Saturday. Thehe Lawrenceville couple officially said "I do" at 7 p.m. at Atlantic Station.
Antwarn and Staneecha Benjamin also chose the unique date as their special day.
"This is the last day like this for the century so we decided to mark the significance with the date," said Staneecha Benjamin.
Another good thing about the date: "He should always remember the anniversary. 12/12/12 -- it doesn't get any easier than that," said Staneecha.
