The Prince George's County Police Department will host its third 'Gift Cards for Guns' event over the weekend.
The program which has helped officers collect hundreds of weapons over the years will allow gun owners to turn in guns to police in return for a $100 gift card.
Police say the firearms do not need to be functional and unwanted ammunition may be turned in as well.
The event will take place on Saturday, December 15 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church at 601 8th Street in Laurel.
Anyone participating should place the firearms – unloaded - in the trunk of their cars. A uniformed police officer will instruct them at the location.
The NAACP and the Prince George's County Youth Strategies Division are partnering with police at this year's event.
