Holiday tipping etiquette

Tipping season is upon us. Who should you tip? And should you give money or a gift?

For a doorman, $100 is about right.

Patricia Napier Fitzpatrick, the founder and owner of the Etiquette School of New York, says the going tip rate for your doorman is somewhere between $25 and $150.

But not everyone gets a tip; you don't tip anyone you actually pay for merchandise.

How much do you tip your mailman? Correct answer: $20.

The babysitter and the dog walker should get at least the cost of one visit.

The live-in nanny gets at least one week's pay.

The newspaper delivery person gets $25.

So when are you supposed to divvy out all these tips? Fitzpatrick says do it by the end of the first two weeks of December.

When it comes to breaking through to the other side, forget Victoria's Secret. Another company, Australia-based HommeMystere, has already done it with lingerie for men.
