Experimental Air Force Spacecraft Rockets Into Space

Posted: Updated:

An Air Force rocket lifted off from the eastern coast of Florida on Tuesday afternoon.

The United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket blasted off into space from Cape Canaveral.

The unmanned spacecraft carries the Air Force's third orbital test vehicle, which will support space experimentation, risk reduction and concept of operations development for long duration.

This is the second flight to space for the Atlas V, the first taking place in 2010 when it circled earth for seven months.
