A teacher at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Temple Hills, Md. has been arrested and charged with having sex with a student.
Garnold King has been a teacher with Prince George's County Public Schools since 1994. In that time, he's worked at several schools, including Isaac Gourdine Middle School in Fort Washington last year and Thurgood Marshall Middle School this year.
School officials say he had inappropriate contact with a student at Gourdine. They say they learned of the allegations in September, soon after King began working at Thurgood Marshall.
They say he was immediately removed from the school and has been on administrative leave while a criminal and administrative investigation is underway.
King was arrested last Thursday and charged with several sex offenses.
School officials issued a statement Monday evening saying: "Our number one priority is the protection and safety of our students and we are deeply saddened to learn about this incident. We are working with law enforcement authorities to ensure that this matter is resolved as quickly as possible."
They say King had no incidents on his record prior to being hired.
Students were sent home last Friday with a letter telling parents about the case.
