ATLANTA -

If you are looking to purchase a laptop or desktop computer for Christmas, consider getting a touchscreen.

There are advantages to having a touchscreen on your more traditional device.

The recently released Windows 8 was designed for touchscreen computers which makes sense given that tablets and smart phones all have them.

Right now, there are very little choices in touchscreens for desktops and laptops. The president of Lenovo told the tech site Cnet that the PC industry underestimated the popularity of touchscreens and so they did not stock the stores well this holiday season.

Inventory for touchscreens are supposed to increase in the first half of the new year. So, it might be wise to wait to purchase one.

The PC market has been taking it on the chin in 2012. Microsoft had hoped the launch of Windows 8 would revive the PC market, but that did not happen according to one report. PC sales dropped 21 percent during the first four weeks following the new OS release.

The economy is said to be the main reason behind the lackluster sales. Tablets and smart phones are a close second.

Speaking of tablets, sales are expect to increase 38 percent in 2013 with Android expecting to top apple.
