Normal traffic to return for Hugh Carey Tunnel

MYFOXNY.COM/AP -

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the Hugh Carey Tunnel, formerly known as the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, will resume normal traffic Monday with the opening of three lanes heading into Manhattan during peak morning drive times.

Normal three-lane traffic will flow in both directions in the tunnel connecting Lower Manhattan to Brooklyn for the first time since it was flooded by Hurricane Sandy.

Cuomo says both tubes reopened around-the-clock to all vehicles except trucks on November 19 but traffic has been limited due to damage.

The storm pumped millions of gallons of water into the tunnel during causing a massive flood. The water destroyed the circuit board that controls overhead traffic signals inside the tunnel.
