Posted: Updated:
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -

Police say they're seeing an increase in car break-ins as parking lots are packed during the holiday season.

Sandy Springs Police Officer Larry Jacobs said they've have seen 16 cars burglarized in the past few days. He attributes the sharp rise to holiday shopping. He said too many people their valuables out in the open.

Authorities say there are several things you can do to protect yourself.  They advise you to store your valuables in your trunk and put them there before you get to your destination.

Also, police say park close to the front entrance of the store or movie theatre you're going into. If you park there, there's more traffic, you're less likely to get broken into.
