Dionne Miller's `Happenings at Halas' - December 5

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

There was no sign of Brian Urlacher at practice today as the Bears moved indoors to prepare for a trip to Minnesota. Nick Roach manned the middle of the field with the first team defense while Geno Hayes took over on the outside. Something neither has done since training camp. There is no question the impact no Urlacher has on a Bears team trying to make a play off push, but incase you need further

proof- they are 7-15 in games he has missed. Numbers that must improve if they hope to make the post season. A month ago it wasn't a hope. At

7-1 the Bears were in control - of the division, the play offs- in the same conversation as 'best in the NFC'. But nothing is won in September and October. And the talk all along has been "IF- we stay healthy" - play offs, super bowl, etc. Well now the injury report is longer than its been all season. Highlighted by Urlacher. And with him out 2-4 weeks with a sprained hamstring and an expiring contract, his Bears future is in question.

Now I am a glass half full kind of gal. I want to believe the Bears are play off bound. Sunday will determine it. How this team bounces back from an ugly loss to Seattle and steps in for Urlacher is what any bonus football hinges on.

And let's face it. The offense was built to carry this team into January. Now- they have no choice. Mike Tice acknowledged they need to play winning football- consistently. "it does no good to be the starting -this or that - for the Bears if you're not playing winning football."

It's true. Jay Cutler says the offense needs to score more points. Which is the most disappointing part of this season for this team. The offense was supposed to carry the team all year. The defense did the work while the O searched for a rhythm. They still aren't playing winning football consistently. That has to change this week.

"It's about character. It's about fight, it's about want to." according to Brandon Marshall, "So, I'm excited to see how we come out and fight on Sunday."

INJURY REPORT: Some would argue this whole blog has been an injury report but no- Urlacher is not the only one banged up. Tim Jennings

(shoulder) sat out of practice, along with Earl Bennett (concussion), Michael Bush (bruised ribs), Stephen Paea (foot). Marshall was held out as well- just because of a coaches decision. How about some good news.

Alshon Jeffry, Devin Hester both practiced on a limited basis. Gabe Carimi (hamstring) and Chris Spencer (knee) also banged up but out there. was limited in practice.

The Bears did practice indoors today- first time this season. If there is a silver lining to finishing the season with 3 out of 4 on the road- every single road contest is in a dome. It's like Mother Nature and Santa Clause are Bears fans...
