A saw blade crashed through a Marietta man's SUV while driving on I-285.
MARIETTA, Ga. -
A Marietta man is lucky to be alive after a saw blade crashed through his windshield and struck him in the head while he drove in Interstate 285 on Tuesday. Police are looking for witnesses to the accident so they can track down the owner of the blade.
Henry Rodriguez was driving home from work on I-285 westbound when something crashed through his windshield.
"It felt like I got hit with a baseball bat straight across the head as the impact happened," Rodriguez said.
He didn't realize exactly what it was until he pulled his SUV over to the side of the road.
"Turned the truck off and looked on the dashboard and I saw a 14-inch round concrete saw blade," he said.
Rodriguez was taken to the emergency room. He now has to see an orthopedic surgeon for his injuries.
"I got a laceration across my wrist that's about 4 inches long and about an inch deep, and it cut three tendons and an artery. And I got laceration on my head, which is about a half-inch deep," he said.
Sandy Springs police collected the saw blade as evidence. Detectives hope to use the serial number to track down the owner of the blade. But they say that a witness would really help the case.
Henry didn't get a look at the vehicle that the saw blade came from, so he's hoping that someone else saw it and can report it to police.
"Well, if anybody saw where it came from, that could be good. It could help pay for some of the bills for my vehicle and for my doctor bills instead of me paying out of pocket," he said.
Rodriguez also has advice for anyone driving on an interstate in metro Atlanta.
"Be mindful of what's going on on the road. I mean these things can happen in a split-second as it did with me," he said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Sandy Springs Police tip line at 770-551-3300, and reference case number 2012-015999.
