Person killed in NW DC townhouse fire

WASHINGTON -

A person has died in a townhouse fire in the 1800 block of 1st Street in Northwest D.C.

Fire officials say they received a call for the fire shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to connecting homes.

Once the fire was put out, firefighters discovered a body on the first floor of the home. Authorities have not revealed the gender or age of the victim.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is on hand to assist possible displaced residents.
