Brookhaven residents choose mayor, council members

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -
Tuesday is run-off election day for voters in Georgia's newest city. Residents of Brookhaven in north Atlanta are selecting a mayor and three city council members.
Only one council member, Jim Eyre, won more than 50 percent of the vote on Election Day.
A five member state panel has steered the new city until leaders can be seated. The newly-elected council will then vote on city contracts.

A judge has sentenced Michael Parson to the maximum of 35 years in jail for the attempted murder of his wife. On Thursday, Parson was convicted of shooting his wife, Adina, eight times in 2012.
A judge has sentenced Michael Parson to the maximum of 35 years in jail for the attempted murder of his wife. During an emotional sentencing hearing on Friday morning, Parson's mother told the court she still doesn't believe he is the shooter.
