PAULSBORO, N.J. -

School administrators with the Paulsboro Board of Education have canceled school for the rest of the week, following Friday morning's train derailment.

In a statement issued shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, Tom Ridinger, president of the Paulsboro Board of Education, said the decision was made as part of a recommendation by emergency officials.

"Due to the current emergency in the Paulsboro Borough, as per the recommendation of the emergency response team, the Superintendent and the Board of Education have decided to close schools for the remainder of this week (Tuesday through Friday)," the statement read.

The local emergency response team plans to have a public meeting in the cafeteria of Paulsboro High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Borough officials say the borough council meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday will meet in the high school auditorium.
