Authorities say it may be several days before dozens of residents are allowed to return to their apartments in a northern New Jersey building that was severely damaged by a massive fire.

Firefighters in Union City were still dousing hot spots Tuesday morning at the scene of a three-alarm fire.

The large building fire broke out Monday afternoon. There were no reports of injuries.

The fire reportedly started on the fourth floor.

Part of the roof of the four-story building at 411 Bergenline Ave. collapsed.

Ladder trucks were pouring water on the flames from above.  Heavy smoke was pouring into the sky from the incident.

The cause of the fire not been determined because investigators could not enter the building.
