Man shot, child wounded by stray bullet in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON, DC -

DC Police responded to the 1200 block of Savannah Place Southeast to investigate a shooting.

They found a man in his 30's who'd been shot on the sidewalk, and a four year old boy inside a

nearby apartment who was also wounded.

"It appears a stray bullet penetrated the door to the apartment and the four year old was shot while standing inside there," Capt. Byron Hope says.

The little boy was shot through the hand and taken to Children's Hospital for treatment.

The man who was shot was transported with a non-life threatening gunshot wound too.

Right now, it's unclear if this was a drive by, or if the shooter was on foot.

"We have detectives here and they are interviewing people inside the apartment and witnesses on the street, but at this point, we don't have a motive," Hope says.

Investigators say it doesn't appear that the four year old victim and the adult male were related, but that is part of the ongoing investigation.
