The New York Yankees announced on Friday that they had signed right-handed closer Mariano Rivera to a one-year, $10M contract for the 2013 season.

Rivera, 43, is Major League Baseball's all-time saves leader.

He missed almost the entire 2012 season after suffering a torn right ACL on May 3.  Rivera was 1-1 with five saves and a 2.16 ERA in nine relief appearances before his injury.

Rivera has recorded at least one save in each of the last 17 seasons.

"Like I've been saying, I didn't want to go out like that," Rivera said. "I didn't want that to be the last image. But it wasn't an easy decision because there's more than just baseball with me."
