UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -

There is excitement at a Maryland convenience store after a mystery man was caught on tape with what looked like a winning Powerball jackpot ticket.

We don't know who this man is. We don't even know if he really has the winning ticket.

At first, he was just another customer at the Village Shop Exxon gas station in Upper Marlboro.

"He asked me give me the winning numbers," said Negassi Ghebre, manager of the gas station.

Ghebre printed the winning numbers from Wednesday's giant Powerball jackpot. The mystery man had lots of tickets to check - including one that store employees say was from Arizona - where a winning ticket was sold.

"Suddenly he says, ‘I got it,"' Ghebre said.

He showed them the ticket, but was holding on tight. Then he began going from one customer to another in disbelief. One guy even puts on his glasses to help out by taking a closer look.

When he gets confirmation, he is thrilled and runs out door. But employees say he was so excited, he forgot to get gasoline. They say he paid cash for $15 worth of gas and then left in a dark-colored SUV.

Witnesses say the man mentioned he had been in the military. The uniform that he wore into the store early Thursday afternoon appears to be that of a Virginia Department of Transportation employee.

To learn something else about this man - surveillance video showed earlier before he makes his big discovery - that another customer in the store doesn't haven't enough money to pay for a purchase and turns and asks somebody else for help. And it's the mystery man who steps in to help.

Whoever this is would have to claim the ticket in Arizona since that is where it was purchased. The winner has 180 days to do that.

So far, Arizona Lottery are not saying anything.
