It can be tough to start a business from the ground up. HollyBeth Anderson says anything you put your heart into will ultimately work out, and after a successful corporate career traveling the world, she decided to come home and put her heart into her passion.
Even though her Old Fourth Ward studio looks like a page fresh out of a Martha Stewart's book, the metro Atlanta businesswoman doesn't see herself as a particularly good homemaker.
"Five years ago, I would have never thought I'd be sitting here talking to you about this," said Anderson.
She is referring to her successful line of luxury organic skin care products, named HollyBeth Organics. She says she always had a connection with the earth.
"I grew up with a grandmother who, like, she made everything. You know you cook and eat what you grow. And we would walk through the woods and she would know all this stuff. And I kind of like did something completely different," explained Anderson.
After college, the admitted workaholic went to work a Fortune 100 company. It took her to at least 50 different countries.
"Lived in Spain, Europe, lived in France, South America. Spoke Spanish and French every day for a living, basically, in my professional life until I turned 49, 50. The epiphany came and I started doing this that was a hobby," said Anderson.
After a lifetime of doing what she had to do, she started doing what she wanted to do. Her first product was eye cream.
"When I was in Spain, a friend's mother told me I should always use eye cream because that's the first thing that's going to go. So I was going around collecting eye cream and I thought, you know what, I have to make my own," said Anderson.
Her line of more than 20 products has been featured in countless magazines and won beauty product awards. But the well-traveled Georgia girl says her recipe for success isn't complicated at all.
"Two things. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, that's number one. Number two, follow your heart. You've got to follow your gut," advised Anderson.
On Saturday, Anderson is having her annual open house, where you can come into her studio and sample her products. This year, she'll also have the co-author of Martha Stewart Wedding Cakes on hand for decorating tips. For more information, click here!
