An Atlanta police officer is under investigation after allegations surfaced that the officer demanded a sex act from a Georgia Tech student who was looking for a ride back to campus.
Police sources tell FOX 5 the student claims the incident happened after a Halloween night celebration, and that he was told he would have to give a sex act to the APD officer in order to get help getting home. The officer works at Atlanta Police Zone Two.
Sources say the student had a little too much to drink. They say he spotted the officer and asked for a ride back to campus. Those sources say the officer agreed, and the student got into the patrol car and headed back to Tech's campus.
"On that ride, it is alleged that the officer insisted that a sex act be performed for payment for the ride back to the campus," said Atlanta City Councilman Michael Bond, who chairs the public safety panel.
Atlanta City Councilman Michael Bond called it "the worst, most horrible type of abuse of power" he could imagine.
Sources tell FOX 5 the sex act did take place, and the officer gave the student a ride back to Georgia Tech. When the student got back to his fraternity house, he talked about what happened with the officer. Sources say he was frustrated and embarrassed and said he wanted to just forget about it, but his fraternity brothers encouraged him to tell police.
Sources say investigators pulled the patrol car that was driven that night, and an examination of the vehicle revealed bodily fluids consistent with a sex act.
APD declined a FOX 5 request to make a commander available to be interviewed, but a spokesperson did confirm that two investigations are underway, including both an administrative investigation and a criminal investigation of the officer's alleged conduct.
The unnamed officer is still working, but he is not out on patrols.
