57-year-old Karen Babka and her 21-year-old daughter, Kaitlin, never made it back home to Hughesville, Md. from their Thanksgiving holiday visit to Ohio. They were driving on Interstate 70 in Washington, Pa. on Saturday when the driver of a tractor-trailer lost control, crossed the median, flipped over and crushed their car.
Kaitlin's boyfriend, Francisco Legaspi II, says he was skyping with her when the accident happened. When he didn't hear from her for several hours, he started searching the Internet for car accident stories and found a story about the crash in Pennsylvania. The identities of the victims had not been released.
Legaspi said he went to the Babka's house to see if their car was there. That's when he knew for sure that they were gone.
Members of the Babka's church community, Pointe Ministries in Waldorf, gathered at the home of a friend Monday evening and prayed.
The Babkas had been visiting Karen's husband, David, who had moved to Ohio recently to find work.
