Black Friday: Ready, set, shop!

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (KMSP) -

As the so call "tent city" grew outside Eden Prairie's Best Buy, one person who had been in line for three days summed it up best.

"This is just like camping, but with a TV payoff," said Andrew Kropp.

For these two brothers, this is a Thanksgiving tradition for the sixth year in a row.

"We've actually been upgrading every year, the first year we came out here," said Kropp. "We had nothing – we just came in a coat, and we learned from that quickly."

As the weather worsened and everyone inched closer to the doors opening at midnight, one of the favorite pastimes is trading war stories from past Black Fridays at other stores.

"My dad was the only one who made it through, and he yanked us both in, and we just went, and we just went running," said shopper Kennedy Gorder. "And I asked, ‘What about mom?' and my dad yells, ‘she can take care of herself.'"

At Toys R Us, the line just started to form as the snow started to fall, but these shoppers only had to wait until 8 p.m.

"We're doing things on Saturday with family, so I thought, ‘well it's a good day to just get some shopping out of the way," said Ruth Rozbay.

The Sears store at the Mall of America also opened at 8 p.m., where some hope strategy will win out.

"I was actually at Best Buy earlier today, and then I left," said Joshua Hill. "There were 32 people in line there, so I left, and I came (to Sear) and there were only 8 people ahead of me."

"Walmart was open today, and I was like, ‘why are you guys open today?' That's just so horrible," he added.

Walmart has been open all day, as people scope out the deals, but deep discounts were protected under plastics until 8 p.m. or later.

Best Buy fans in Bloomington continue to prove why they are the diehards, dedicated to Black Friday deals even if they have to wait until midnight for the store to open.
