CANCUN, Mexico – DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell announced that three players have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program starting next season. Billy Garrett, Jr., Forrest Robinson and Greg Sequele all signed and submitted the paperwork during the November signing period.
Garrett is ranked among the nation's top high school point guards while Robinson and Sequele are junior college forwards. The trio is set to arrive on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus for next season.
"We're pleased to add this group of fine athletes into the fold. I think one of the things that we get a lot out of this class is some guys who can really shoot the basketball particularly with Billy and Forrest," said Purnell. "They are all athletic particularly Greg who is a Cleveland Melvin type athlete. Forrest is a big guy who can really shoot the basketball. That's a premium and causes matchup problems for our opponents. Billy can play either guard position and is an outstanding shooter with a high basketball IQ. He's a guy that gives us flexibility in the backcourt. We're really pleased with the class and I really think they are going to help us get much better along with the guys we have returning next year."
Garrett, the son of DePaul assistant coach Billy Garrett, is ranked among the nation's top 100 players by various recruiting services as a 6-4 point guard. He's ranked in the top 25 nationally among all point guards by Scout.com (No. 17), ESPN.com (No. 20/No. 78 overall) and Rivals.com (No. 25/No. 118 overall). Garrett is beginning his senior season at Morgan Park High School in Chicago and also plays on the AAU circuit for the Mac Irvin Fire. He spent a very busy summer in 2012 with stops at the Pangos All-American camp, NBPA Top 100 camp and the Deron Williams Skills Academy while also playing in the nation's top AAU events with the Mac Irvin Fire.
Robinson is a 6-10 forward that started his collegiate career at North Texas before transferring to South Plains College (Texas). As a prep player at Eastland High School (Texas) he was a two-time Abilene Reporter-News Class 2A Player of the Year and was ranked among the top 10 high school players in the state by Texas Hoops. Robinson played in 16 games for the Mean Green before transferring to South Plains and joins the Blue Demons next season as a junior. South Plains is 6-0 this season ranked No. 1 in the national junior college rankings.
Sequele currently plays at Citrus College and is a native of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. The 6-8 forward played high school basketball at Ribet Academy in Los Angeles where he was a two-time all-conference honoree. Sequele played at the College of Southern Idaho as a freshman before transferring back to the Los Angeles area to play at Citrus College this season.
