Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says that after U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s resignation it is time to "look forward."
In a statement released Wednesday, hours after Jackson resigned from Congress, Emanuel says residents of Jackson's congressional district will now have the chance to select a new representative.
In the days after Jackson easily won re-election, Emanuel said he believed the congressman should talk to his constituents about his plans. Jackson had been largely out of sight for months while he was being treated for bipolar disorder and was the subject of federal investigations.
In the statement on Wednesday the Chicago mayor voiced his concern for Jackson and his family and said he was hoping that the congressman will make a "healthy recovery."
