Ashley Hackett addressed reporters Wednesday, asking the public for their help to find the man who robbed her.
Slashing Victim Speaks Out, As Video of Suspect Is ReleasedMore>>
"Please don't be afraid to call the cops. Please." Those words from 23-year-old Ashley Hackett Wednesday as she pleaded for the public's help this Thanksgiving after she almost lost her life in an violent encounter with a slasher.
It was an attack that left her with over 100 stitches in her face and her arm in a sling.
"He's violent. He has an awful side that you may not be aware of," she said. "Protect yourself, please."
Ashley appeared before reporters Wednesday to help announce a $12,500 reward just two weeks after she was attacked by a man walking home along Ninth Street near Catharine.
Suddenly she was fighting for her life.
"Any closer and God knows what could have happened," Ashley told reporters.
"This animal left the victim on the ground, profusely bleeding," said Capt. Larry Nodiff of South Detectives.
Badly cut, Ashley struggled down the block to her home as neighbors came to her rescue and called 9-1-1.
"It's extremely urgent that we get this animal, this creeten, off the street," said FOP Vice President John McGrody, who offered up part of the reward.
Now police have surveillance video of Ashley being stalked down her block by the suspect, who can be seen wearing a distinctive white hoodie. Police are certain someone can help them identify Ashley's attacker.
"We ask the public to please closely look at this video," Nodiff added.
Ashley and her family have stood strong since the ordeal. They are together this holiday weekend and hoping someone can help police get this guy off the streets.
"If you do know him, please reach out," she said. "He's very dangerous and he's still somewhere in our community."
Now, $7,500 of that reward money is coming from the Fraternal Order of Police. The FOP is prepared to pay out that money for an arrest of the suspect.
The city posted another $5,000 for an arrest and conviction.
Ashley faces months of recovery and then more surgery down the road. She thanked her neighbors and friends for their support and she wants someone to turn this guy in right away.
