SPRINGFIELD, Va. -
It's happened again. A man believed to have sexually groped nine different women in Fairfax County (and possibly one more woman in Falls Church) struck again Monday evening in Springfield.
The latest female victim was 26 years old. As she walked just after 6 p.m. Monday on Commerce Street, a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and then sexually groped her.
"The woman did call police right away, so we were able have [a] patrol [officer] out there, as well as detectives," said Lucy Caldwell, spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department. "However, we did not make an apprehension."
The serial groper has struck two times on the 7200 block of Commerce Street, three times on nearby Hibling Avenue, and once on extremely busy Old Keene Mill Road. Some of the attacks have happened in the morning, others in the late afternoon and evening.
In Falls Church, a woman pushing a baby stroller was sexually groped. The victims have ranged in age from 15 to 42.
Raquel Romero, who works in Springfield, is quite nervous: "It's scary knowing that somebody can just come behind you and grab you and you can't walk safe no matter what time of day it is."
Asked if she is doing anything differently, Romero replied, "I keep my eyes open more. And look around more."
The suspect is described as a male Latino, with a medium build, about 5'8" in height. Police say they're working the case aggressively.
In the most recent attack, the serial groper was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.
