The giving season is in full swing and Detroit police officers are giving back to their community. Monday, they'll reach out to the city's homeless.

Officers at the 12th precinct spent time Sunday putting together gift baskets filled with essential items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, warm gloves, hats, etc. Sgt. Sonia Russell went to businesses all over Detroit asking for their help and she says the response was overwhelming. More than 75 packages are ready to be delivered, including comforters and sheet sets.
"I just wanted to do something positive," Sgt. Russell says. "I'm very passionate about the homeless and helping others."
The baskets will be distributed at the non-profit COTS on Monday.
