UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -
A jury has found 20-year-old Alexis Simpson not guilty in the stabbing death of her Bowie State roommate Dominique Frazier.
In closing arguments, the prosecution said Simpson could have walked away from a fight she was having with Dominique Frazier over music.
The prosecutor said Simpson chose to go to her room, get a knife and jab Frazier and slash her throat; that it was a deliberate act of premeditation. The defense, in a surprise move, put Simpson on the stand. During emotional testimony, she broke down sobbing and said she did not intend to kill Frazier. She said Frazier and some of her friends were all jumping on her, and that she was swinging the knife to keep them away from her.
The jury rejected the charges of first degree murder, second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and self-defense.
