Big Step Forward For Family Trying To Adopt Ukrainian Teen

After missing passports threatened to stop the Mountain family from adopting a 15-year-old Ukrainian girl earlier this week, the family tells FOX 29 they are one giant step closer to their goal.

On Tuesday, the family left Philadelphia on their way to Germany and then to Kiev.

The trip came after FOX 29 and Congressman Bob Brady worked to get the family replacement documents for passports that were lost or stolen on their way to Philadelphia from North Carolina.

The missing documents threatened to derail a vital adoption meeting in Kiev Wednesday morning.

Via text, the family tells FoX 29's Bruce Gordan they made their meeting and everything seemed to go well.

Now, the family is on their way to Crimea to see Liza. They hope to be able to have her stay with them on weekends and non-school days while they are in Ukraine.

Another important meeting with an adoption judge is a couple of weeks away.

FOX 29 we'll keep you posted.
