A sneak peek at Ford's new Transit Connect Wagon

Posted: Updated:

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) -- Ford Motor Co. plans to introduce the Transit Connect Wagon later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but FOX 2 got a sneak peek Tuesday morning in Dearborn.

The vehicle will compete in a minivan market that has been shrinking over the last decade as customers migrate to small utilities like the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape.

The new wagon will get 30-plus miles per gallon, making it the most fuel-efficient minivan on the market. Ford won't say how much it will cost, but it will compete with the Dodge Grand Caravan, which starts at $19,995.

Here are the top five best-selling minivans in the U.S. through October this year and their total sales:

Minivan Total sales through October 2012
Dodge Caravan - 118,730
Honda Odyssey - 107,536
Chrysler Town and Country - 95,850
Toyota Sienna - 94,986
Kia  Sedona - 15,598
