Explosive-sniffing mice could be a new weapon in the battle against militants.
An Israeli security company is using mice to detect the presence of explosives.
The detection system was developed by a company called Bioexplorers and is based on the idea of using mice as superior biosensors.
Eran Lumbroso, chief technology officer at Bioexplorers says, "We use mice as biosensors because they are very sensitive, very specific and we can use multiple sensors in one cartridge so it increases the detection rate and lowers the false alarm rate."
The mice may end up being used at airports and other locations with heightened security.
"When they sense an explosive or a narcotic odor, they enter a reporting compartment and then the system senses their movement and alerts about a target detection," Lumbroso continued.
