Police: Pa. Child Trapped In Storm Drain Improves

Posted: Updated:
DUNMORE, Pa. -

Police say a northeastern Pennsylvania toddler's condition is improving after he had to be rescued from a storm drain.

Dunmore police Chief Pat Reese says the 18-month-old boy was upgraded to stable condition Monday, two days after he fell five feet head-first into the open drain.

Reese says the boy was holding his mother's boyfriend's hand when the man put his own infant into his car. Reese tells The Times-Tribune of Scranton (http://bit.ly/SSlgCp ) the man says he lost his grip and the older child slipped into a drain cut into the curb.

Reese says the toddler was submerged in runoff water before he was rescued by firefighters. He says medics were able to restart the boy's heart en route to a hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
