Tests suggested for GA patients in hepatitis probe

MACON, GA (AP) - A hospital in middle Georgia is suggesting that about 400 additional patients get tested for hepatitis C as a former employee faces charges in New Hampshire of tampering with needles and infecting more than 30 people.

The Telegraph of Macon reports (http://bit.ly/SXN7Dj ) officials at Houston Healthcare, which operates clinics in Perry and Warner Robins, recently sent letters to the patients suggesting they be tested for the infection.

David Kwiatkowski worked at Houston Medical Center between October 2010 and March 2011. Kwiatkowski worked at hospitals in several states. The newspaper says no local hepatitis C cases match the strain under investigation.

In addition to the cases in New Hampshire, a woman in Kansas and an unidentified Maryland patient have tested positive for a similar strain of the infection.
