ROYERSFORD BOROUGH, Pa. -
A trapped dog who's head was barely above water was rescued Monday after a police officer jumped in and carried the dog to safety.
According to Royersford Police, a dog was reported trapped in the water in the area of 1st Ave and Diamond Pl.
Police say the officer noticed the dog's head barely above water and knew there wasn't much time, so he jumped into the water.
After breaking the dog free from the log, the officer brought it to an area where bystanders managed to pull it from a steep bank and onto a flat surface.
The dog was taken to the Royersford Veterinary Hospital for treatment. Police say the owner claimed the dog later Monday morning.
A spokesperson for the police department says it was the officer's love of dogs that had him jumping into the water.
