Storm Cleanup Continues In New York

Posted: Updated:
STATEN ISLAND, NY -

Thousands of people in New York are still in the dark because their electrical equipment is damaged from Superstorm Sandy.

Officials with the Long Island Power Authority tell FOX News they have nearly 6,400 linemen and 3,700 tree trimmers working to repair the damage compared to the typical 200 linemen available on a normal day.

The Red Cross says it has already invested $40-50 million in Superstorm Sandy recovery aid.

The Red Cross says it is operating in a new phase as it works to get victims supplies to sustain their own lives beyond just day-to-day needs.

Officials with the Red Cross are also encouraging victims to clean up as much as possible to prevent the possibility of mold growth.

In New Jersey, Long Beach Island residents only just experienced their first full day back at home Saturday morning.
