A 77-year-old man died from injuries in a fall at his darkened apartment building in the Rockaways is the latest victim of Superstorm Sandy.
Police say Albert McSwain was found on October 31 at the bottom of the steps of his building on 84-10 Rockaway Beach Boulevard and the building had no power. McSwain suffered injuries to his head, was paralyzed from the neck down and was taken to the hospital.
McSwain was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he died from his injuries on Saturday, November 10.
McSwain was a custodian at the New York City Police Academy.
The latest fatality raises the city's death toll related to the storm to 43.
Authorities say there have been 23 storm-related deaths on Staten Island; 11 in Queens; seven in Brooklyn, and two in Manhattan.
