Con Ed sets up customer service posts in Brooklyn, Queens and SI

Con Edison says it has command posts set up at seven locations in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island to assist customers who had electrical equipment damage by Superstorm Sandy.

Meanwhile, Con Edison says it restored electricity to 98 percent of homes and businesses in New York City and Westchester County. About 20,000 customers remain powerless.

The locations in the three boroughs are as follows:

Brooklyn

Gerritsen Avenue and Lois Street in Gerritsen Beach

Highland Avenue and Lyme Avenue in Seagate

Shore Boulevard and Mackenzie Street in Manhattan Beach

Voorhies Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Brighton Beach

Queens

Cross Bay Boulevard and East 9th Road in Broad Channel

Cross Bay Boulevard and 165th Avenue in Old Howard Beach

Staten Island

Father Capodanno Boulevard and Hunter Avenue

Con Edison said inspectors are going door-to-door in flood-damaged areas to determine if customer equipment was damaged. If the utility company determines that a customer's equipment was not damaged, their service will be restored when the company re-energizes the affected area.

A customer whose equipment has sustained water damage will need to have a private licensed electrician or plumber certify that the equipment can be safely energized according to Con Ed.

Out of over 500 hopefuls only a handful will join the Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team. The Nets held auditions this week at LIU Brooklyn. Adorable Bronx native Arielle was turned away last year but this time around she's made it through to the final round of the auditions. But even those who were on the team last year still have to try out.
