Sea Bright reopened to residents

MYFOXNY.COM -

For 10 day crews have been digging out Sea Bright. The Jersey shore town was covered with sand and debris from Superstorm Sandy. Now officials are finally allowing residents come back in and begin to rebuild.

Access remains restricted; residents will be allowed back with their vehicles during daylight hours but will have to leave again until contractors can come in to rebuild.

Entry is from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and everyone must be out by 5 p.m. daily.

The only access to the borough is via the Rumson Bridge.  Sea Bright Police are stationed at the bridge in order to inspect IDs of everyone attempting to enter.

What most residents will come home too is utter destruction:  homes undermined and torn apart. The beach clubs that line Sea Bright's oceanfront have all been demolished except for one.  Downtown businesses were gutted.

One restaurant owner helped set up a tent city to feed construction workers and returning residents.

Utilities crews are still working to restore gas and electricity lines and service to the homes that still exist.

The borough issued rules for all residents to follow:

1.PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SHUT OFF YOUR ELECTRIC CIRCUIT BREAKERS

2.DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TURN ON YOUR GAS APPLICANCES, INCLUDING OVENS AND STOVES. ALL GAS IN THE BOROUGH IS SHUT DOWN AND TURNING ON SUCH APPLIANCES COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD

3.LEAVE ALL DEBRIS AND REFUSE AT THE CURB AND IT WILL BE PICKED UP BY BORO PERSONNEL/GARBAGE CONTRACTORS. DO NOT PUT ANY ITEMS IN THE STREET.

Residents may call Boro Hall at 732-842-0099 with any questions or the Police Department at 732-842-0010 with any problems.
