Nor'Easter Doesn't Stop Millville Football

Posted: Updated:

The green on the gridiron of Millville High's football game is blanketed by the white of a  Nor'easter snow.

It's so cold we caught Hammonton wide receiver Devin Porteons doing a little sideline dance to keep warm.

"I've never really played in snow before," said Porteons. "It's actually fun, but really cold outside. "

People shielded themselves with umbrellas and covered up with blankets.

A  trio of bundled up Hammonton fans shared their secret to weathering the snow storm while watching the game.

"We have a lot of layers and we have jerseys on top," said Jessica Garretson. "You gotta have the jersey "

"I  have an Underarmour, another Underarmour a thermal sweatshirt and then the jersey," explained Camille Maimone.

According to the Millville Public Works Department no salt was put down on the  streets since it started snowing Wednesday morning.

Fifteen public works crews are on standby just in case it gets too cold and the snow  turns to ice.

Shopping centers aren't  taking any chances. You could hear the sound of scraping as plow trucks cleared their lots.

Sidewalks were also salted

The Nor''easter has kept George  Jackson's plowing service busy all day and night.

"I'm worried about it freezing up tonight. I'm  trying to get slush off the ground and put a little salt down. That way it doesn't refreeze and people don't have a problem slipping and falling and crashing in parking lots."

Police say there were a few fender benders throughout the day. They'll be out patrolling overnight to make sure none of the streets become sheets of ice.
