Officials in Ocean County ordered additional mandatory evacuations ahead of the Nor'easter taking aim at the region.

Initially, residents in low-lying areas of Brick Township were ordered to evacuate by Tuesday at 6 p.m. By Wednesday morning, many residents had not left town.

Toms River has issued a mandatory evacuation of the barrier island at noon. There are voluntary evacuations of low-lying areas on the mainland.

Middletown Township in Monmouth County has issued a mandatory 3 p.m. evacuation from Keansburg to Atlantic Highlands from Route 36 to the bay.

Officials feel Superstorm Sandy has left the coast more vulnerable to storms. It also has weakened structures and trees.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
