Disgraced St. John's dean dead in apparent suicide

A disgraced dean of St. John's University accused of using students as personal servants has been found dead in her apartment in an apparent suicide, a law enforcement official said.
Cecilia Chang's body was discovered at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a day after she testified in her own defense in her forced labor trial, the official said. Chang was the former dean of the Institute of Asian Studies. She was found hanged in her apartment.
In bizarre testimony, she admitted lying to federal officials and expensing personal items but denied stealing $1 million from the school.
The official was not authorized to speak publicly because Chang's family had not been notified and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. An autopsy would determine the cause of death.
