Obama wins DC's 3 electoral votes

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

President Barack Obama has scored an easy victory in the District of Columbia, exit polling shows.

Four years ago, a record 92 percent of voters in the nation's capital supported Obama.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in the district by an 11-to-1 margin. The Democratic candidate has carried the district in every presidential election since the city was granted three electoral votes starting in 1964.

Although the city is no longer majority-black, African-Americans still outnumber any other ethnic group. Four years ago, residents partied all night on the streets to celebrate the election of the nation's first black president.

Election officials said turnout was high. More than 50,000 people voted early.
