When the New York City Marathon was canceled on Friday, marathoner Chris Dessi knew he had to stick to the plan.

The social media expert and frequent contributor on Good Day New York planned to run to raise money for ALS research. Chris's father, Adrien, suffers from the debilitating condition.

On Sunday, the day the race would have been run, Chris ran 26.2 miles through Chappaqua and Pleasantville, New York.

Ten miles into his run, Chris got to Pleasantville High School where he hit the track with his father watching from his wheelchair.

At about mile 18, two soccer teams playing on the field stopped to cheer Chris on.

One parent joined Chris for a few miles around the track.

Chris completed his run with a tearful final few steps across the finish line.
